At the end of September we were pleased to be a part of the opening ceremony for the new clinic at Tuman!

While Tuman is only a 20-minute drive from Kudjip, the new clinic will be very helpful for those in the surrounding community as well as students and staff from the Bible College and Teacher’s College.
The clinic was built mostly of used materials – most of which came from portions of the old hospital at Kudjip that were taken down during the expansion project. It is very cool to be able to have portions of the original 1967 hospital live a new life in this clinic!

The clinic at Tuman is the newest of 9 clinics around PNG that Nazarene Health Ministries operates. Many Papua New Guineans face challenges in accessing medical care not because there are no hospitals (although there are far fewer hospitals and doctors per person than in most other countries), but because they live in areas that are so remote from the cities and towns where hospitals are located. The Nazarene Health Ministries operates Rural Health Clinics to serve people that live in remote and difficult to access villages.
Tuman is a unique clinic in that it isn’t located in a rural setting. It was started because there is a significant population of students and staff at Tuman that will greatly benefit from having basic medical resources nearby. We hope this clinic will continue to be a blessing to the Tuman community and schools for many years to come!
