What We Do Part 1: Construction Projects

One of the primary roles that we (Nazarene Mission Services) play in supporting mission work in the Highlands of PNG is planning and managing construction projects. We are currently building a new classroom building for the Nazarene College of Nursing here at Kudjip.

Another project in process is the construction of a clinic at the Tuman campus, where a Bible College and Teacher’s College are located. A fun fact about this clinic: it is being constructed with some of the timbers from the original hospital at Kudjip, which are over 50 years old!

One of the more recent projects that have been completed at Kudjip are the new “Doctor’s Townhouses”. Although the last two units were completed just last month, we already have five happy tenants! Dr. Daniel, Dr. Laura with her husband Taylor, and a volunteer couple that come for a few months every year.

I am grateful to be a part of the many projects that help the people and the communities here. Not only do these projects provide spaces at a low cost (vs commercial contractors here), but we are able to develop and employ local people from the villages near the. They are able to gain skills, be employed while the project is underway, and also be a part of building something that provides a lasting benefit for their community.
