In our October newsletter we hinted at various activities that I have been working on for/with my students. One of those activities happened at the beginning of November. While Alex, a good friend of my students, was visiting with her parents we decided to do our High School Movie Night. Let me tell you, trying to pick a movie with six very different middle/high schoolers can be quite the process. We were able to finally decide on “Swiss Family Robinson.” Thankfully we won’t have to vote again for the next movie night; we’ll be watching “Storks”, the second choice. After the movie was picked out, everything else came together quickly and effortlessly. Students signed up for treats and snacks to bring. Lukas picked up all the students on the lower half of the compound while Caleb picked up all the students on the upper half. One interesting observation during this movie night was how much these students talked throughout the movie. I was very thankful I had seen it before. A good time was definitely had by all, and they have asked for the second movie night to be soon (I told them probably during Christmas break as our weekends are packed before Christmas).

The second activity we have been working on has actually been taking place once a week for the past month. English Lotu (Church Service) is where missionaries from MAF and other organizations come to Kudjip every other month and we all do a church service in English. December 3rd, as it is our Christmas Lotu, is special because the Elementary School is in charge of leading the service. Since there are not very many students in the Elementary School, the High Schoolers are helping with the Christmas play this year. 🙂 I was actually one of the three narrators. We had been practicing every week for the past month, and the play was a wonderful experience for all of us.

Finally, for our compound Christmas party the High Schoolers are going to be the “entertainment.” We are going to be doing a rendition of the 12 Days of Christmas. 🙂 I have been working on re-writing the song to be the “12 Days of Christmas Kudjip Edition”. The students have seen what the 12 days are and they all will have a certain number of the 12 days to act out. Sadly, I will be the one singing it…hopefully everyone will be watching them and not paying attention to me :). Now that our English Lotu is done we will be starting to practice this for the Christmas Party on the 16th. Thankfully all my kids are pretty excited about it, so it should be a lot of fun.
